I am a University of Iowa doctoral student. I am in the Couple and Family Therapy program through Psychological & Quantitative Foundations in the College of Education.
I am currently a therapist at the University of Iowa LGBTQ+ Counseling center. I primarily practice with families, and marginalized groups and identities.
I am a community organizer promoting social justice postmodernist narratives, collaborative language-based and trauma-aware psychotherapy.
I have background in systemic/family therapy and the science of family systems theory. My research and clinical interests center around:
- Families, couples, and individuals
- LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC
- Underserved and Marginalized groups (e.g.: Individuals with disabilities or additional needs, Sex Workers, infants...)
- Individuals with Religious/Cult Trauma
- Sexual Shame
- Trauma-informed care
- Minority Stress and Historical Trauma
- Minority populations and intersectional experiences
- Implications of Gender Orientation, Gender diversity, and sexual transitions for refugees' resettlement process.
- Transnational Intersectionality, Behavioral health, and Mental Health Risk factors among displaced populations.
Longterm, I am exploring Community-Based Participatory Research, working with refugee families to address their mental and behavioral health needs. My goal is to explore resettlement dynamics with these families while fostering a wholesome community health.
